Chronic pelvic pain is a difficult problem to treat with the following characteristics:

  1. It is as common as asthma in the British community
  2. Unfortunately 60% of the patients never see a Specialist
  3. 28% of patients may not have a diagnosis
  4. It affects an individual's life style, work practices and social life
  5. It can affect all age groups and no one is immune
  6. It is usually multifactorial and related to more than one cause
  7. There is usually a psychological cause or effect to the problem
  8. Chronic pelvic pain may be controlled but rarely treated all together
  9. Patients need  to know that some residual discomfort is possible
  10. Accordingly, realistic target or goal should be set with patients
  11. Early treatment may prevent chronic pain syndrome development
